What mattress should a combination sleeper weighing 60 to 90 kg choose?

If you sleep in several positions and weigh 60 to 90 kg, aim for a mattress between 5–6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, paired with a pillow 8–12 cm high. The construction that suits you best is hybrid or memory foam. Because you do not run hot, there is no reason to pay extra for cooling features.

Why 5–6 out of 10?

Sleeping in several positions sets the starting point, and body weight moves it. Weighing 60 to 90 kg changes how deeply the same mattress compresses beneath you: lighter bodies need a softer surface to sink in far enough for the spine to stay level, while heavier bodies need a firmer one to avoid sinking too far. Be aware that no ASTM or ISO standard for mattress firmness exists, so one brand's 6 can feel like another's 4 — treat 5–6 as a target to aim at, and use a long home trial rather than a five-minute showroom test.

Why a 8–12 cm pillow?

Pillow height depends on your mattress, not only on your sleeping position. With a mattress around 5–6 firmness, your shoulder sinks a certain amount, and the pillow has to fill whatever gap is left under your head so your neck stays level with your spine. Research published in 2022 measured this directly: moving to a softer mattress while keeping the same pillow raised cervical disc loading by 49 per cent. If you change your mattress, reconsider your pillow at the same time.

Which construction suits Qatar's climate?

In Qatar, hybrid or memory foam is preferable to dense all-foam. Doha's annual relative humidity runs 53 to 59 per cent, rising to 71 per cent in winter, and dense memory foam traps the most heat and moisture and carries the highest mould risk, while coils and latex allow far more internal airflow. The most practical point: never place a mattress directly on the floor. That is the single most common cause of mattress mould, because moisture cannot escape from underneath.

Which size do you need in Qatar?

Qatar uses American size names with metric dimensions, so a King here is 180 × 200 cm rather than the American 193 × 203 cm. The common sizes are Single 90 × 190, Double 140 × 200, Queen 160 × 200 (sometimes 150 × 200), King 180 × 200, and Super King 200 × 200. Check the centimetres against your bed frame rather than relying on the name alone.
